Preparing For The Journey
- The Importance of Childbirth Education
Imagine, if you will… you and your
husband are about to take a trip to
somewhere beautiful – let’s say you
are headed for the warm, sandy
beaches of sunny California.
You are spontaneous,
carefree. You
get in the car and drive
west, assuming you’ll
get there eventually…
right? The first leg of
your trip is going so
well! You’re excited,
having never been to
California, and you are
singing along with the
radio with reckless
abandon. A short way
into your trip you start
getting hungry and pull off the road
at the nearest exit. Much to your dismay
there are no restaurants or fast
food establishments anywhere to be
found. Your husband asks around only
to discover that the highway you have
chosen has very few exits, and restaurants
and the like are scarce!
You
trudge back to your vehicle and head
out on the road again, wishing you
had thought to bring some snacks
along.
A few hours pass and you notice
the previously flat, easy road is starting
to get pretty hilly and the sun is
setting. Rather than enjoying the beautiful
sunset as you wind through the
foothills, you are starting to worry
about traveling these unknown roads
in the dark! You carry on, however –
there simply isn’t anywhere to stop
now!
The hills get increasingly steep
as it becomes exceedingly more difficult
to see the road ahead. You wish
you had brought a map so you had
some idea of how long
you’d have to drive
through these mountains!
Up and down, up
and down… you’re so
hungry and incredibly
tired! To make matters
worse, your husband is
sitting next to you reading
a magazine. A
MAGAZINE for Pete’s
sake! Wasn’t HE the one who wanted to
take this trip in the first
place? We are NEVER
driving to California again! Each time
you climb the side of a mountain you
begin to panic, you don’t know if you
can continue on… you’re so tired!
You’re starving! To be honest, you’re
downright scared! To top it off your
gas light just came on and there’s
smoke pouring out from under your
hood.
Thirty minutes later you are sitting
in the cab of a tow truck wondering
where things went so wrong. You do
eventually make it to California, you
do sit and bask on the warm sandy
beaches, but part of you is a little traumatized,
part of you wonders what
you could have done to make the trip
a little easier. Part of you is secretly
thinking you just might fly next time.
Childbirth
Classes TRULY
prepare you to
birth naturally
WITHOUT
FEAR! Planning and preparing for the
birth of your baby is just as important
as preparing for a cross-country trip!
You’d never leave home without learning
the route - that would be ludicrous!
Your husband can even help you prepare,
himself learning about the road
ahead…how to comfort and support
you through your labor. You can begin
preparing DURING your pregnancy
– together – and you will find
the trip, your labor and delivery, isn’t
the scary or unknown experience illustrated
above, but a beautiful, enjoyable,
memorable journey.
You may
think you don’t “need” to attend
Childbirth Education classes, but like
any other major undertaking, labor
takes preparation! Give yourself and
your baby the best chance at a beautiful
birth experience! Find a Childbirth
Education class that suits your needs
and sign up! You won’t regret it, take
it from me, a mother of five babies –
one scary labor and delivery I was
NOT prepared for and four beautiful
births I had prepared for ahead of time!
You won’t regret it… chances are,
you’ll thank me for it later! |
